Provincial Institutions
Adult women sentenced to incarceration for less than two years serve their sentences in provincial institutions operated by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. One provincial facility is dedicated to housing women, the Vanier Centre for Women, at the Maplehurst campus in Milton. It is designed for 124 women, mostly sentenced but also some remanded in custody pending trial or sentence. Women also are held in special units of local jails, detention centres and correctional centres where men are housed. Young offenders, ages 12 to 17, are housed separately from adults in facilities operated by Ministry of Children and Youth Justice Services (see below). Most are held in co-ed facilities, sometimes in the same unit as males.
Adults
Visiting hours vary from facility to facility. Call the institution to confirm local guidelines and visiting hours for the day you plan to visit.
